@Hoshi-to-Mori international Tanka contest, which held on 2nd may 1999 for the first time, are typical poetry contest, that must be read with fixed form by 5-7-5-7-7. We have been Japanese field and English.
And the prized job was read aloud in both language,as well.
But, English field was abolished after the ninth, and it became only Japanese field.
The points are to read aloud in front of the audience to share those impression, and to spead the tanka network all aroud.
The awards are selected/Hoshi-to-Mori and Mr. James kirkup.

| @Welcome to a unique tanka contest! Why is it unique? It is unique because it is the first time such a big event has taken place. Unique also, because the rules of traditional, classic tanka must be observed-- that is, the use of 31 syllables in five lines that are divided into 5-7-5-7 and 7 syllables. It is a true test of poetic skill, and poetic sensibility, Any tanka that does not conform to these strict rules will be eliminated, "The tanka sings, and leaves a lingering spell..." that is how I defined classic tanka in my book, A BOOK OF TANKA"(Salzburg University Press). So I hope to find many good tanka in perfect form and possessing qualities of rhythm and music. I shall look also for those which show an inventive, inspired use of the strict form. Good luck! |
